A message from our Executive Director
2008 was quite a year for our affiliate!
I want to thank all of our volunteers, board members, company sponsors, and
donors of all kinds for the support we received!
We also hope that you can open your hearts once more in 2009 with a donation to
help us help others in the Allegheny Valley. Here are some reasons why and how
you might help:
Even if legions of volunteers stood at the ready to build houses, nothing could
happen without donations of money and materials. Because all Habitat homes are
built with privately donated funds, donors are essential partners in the
homebuilding process. Donors to Habitat Allegheny Valley are also investors
because all Habitat homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are reinvested into
the organization to serve more families in the future!
Whether you sponsor an entire house or contribute incrementally, to give to
Habitat Allegheny Valley is to expand a sustainable building model that will
grow to reap exponential dividends in the vitality of our community.
There are numerous ways to begin a financial partnership with Habitat Allegheny
Valley:
Individual Donors
Each time an individual writes a check to our organization they contribute to
the backbone of our organizational funding. Just like swinging a hammer, a
financial partnership with Habitat Allegheny Valley is a chance to give back to
your community. There are many ways to contribute whether it is a house
sponsorship, a matching funds program, planned giving or a onetime donation.
Corporations and Local Businesses
Each year businesses decide to give back to the community through Habitat
Allegheny Valley. With this decision they become civic leaders by investing in a
more sustainable community for all. There are many different levels of
partnership available to corporations and businesses ranging from whole house
sponsorships to selling 2x4s for Habitat Homes from your storefront, to
participating in a morning build by sponsoring that day with your contribution
towards the materials for the day. Each level of sponsorship comes with numerous
advertising opportunities.
Faith Groups
Because Habitat Allegheny Valley is an ecumenical Christian organization, faith
groups are natural partners. Financial partnership with Habitat is a unique
opportunity for faith groups to be the hands and feet of God as they serve those
in need. Habitat Allegheny Valley encourages local faith groups to form teams
called Apostle’s Build Teams that come together, 12 faith groups, to fund an
entire house while they also contribute the volunteer labor!
Civic Groups
As groups like the Lions Club and Rotary have discovered, financial partnership
with Habitat comes with the opportunity to get your hands dirty together and to
see tangible results quickly. Empower low-income members of our community
through decent, affordable housing falls well within the vision of many groups.
In-Kind Donations
Imagine the significance of a donated lumber package or even professional
expertise. Each time a business decides to contribute goods or services to
Habitat Allegheny Valley, they save the organization thousands of dollars that
would have otherwise been directed to purchases. If you have some product or
service that you think may benefit Habitat, there may indeed be a good fit!
We hope you will prayerfully consider some of these options for helping us
continue to do our mission in the Allegheny Valley. To build or renovate simple,
decent, affordable homes for those in need and eliminate poverty housing from
our area!
